Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disease particularly fear. It currently affects over 860,000 people in France and this figure could double by 2020. US researchers come perhaps to find a path to effectively fight against this disease.
Currently no cure has been found to cure Alzheimer’s disease. Issued drugs can only slow the degeneration.
Boost the immune system
This pathology is characterized by aggregation of tau protein in the nerve cells and by deposits of amyloid plaques in areas of the brain leading to neuronal degeneration.
According to a new study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s disease, supplementation with omega-3 and vitamin D help to stimulate the immune system to destroy these famous plates.Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, studied blood samples of two Alzheimer’s patients. They have isolated macrophages, immune cells that “eat” cell debris, bacteria and other foreign particles to protect the body. Scientists have these macrophages cultured with omega 3 and vitamin D. And they found that it increased their ability to destroy the amyloid beta proteins.
Right mix to assess
A clinical trial will be conducted to confirm these initial results and determine the necessary dosage of omega 3 and vitamin D. In fact, a previous study highlighted a big omega 3 consumption can be harmful.
Recall that without any supplementation, the main source of vitamin D in the body is the sun. Skin contact its rays produces vitamin D. It can also be found in fatty fish, egg yolks, organ meats etc … Omega-3, are present in abundance in fatty fish (mackerel , tuna, salmon …) and linseed oil or hemp particular.
